Well Movember has just come to an end. A lot of people were involved in fundraisers raising funds for much needed cancer research.

B.C. benefits from an international centre of excellence in prostate cancer research and treatment, a policy environment that promotes research and development, and access to effective treatments and support systems. These factors have helped the province achieve the second-lowest prostate cancer mortality rate in Canada. Canadian Cancer Statistics 2012.
The Vancouver Prostate Centre is the largest program of its kind in Canada. It also boasts a large patient clinic and clinical trials facility, approximately 125 scientists, and a world-class translational research program. The Centre has received more than $10 million from the B.C. government in total to support its work in addition to philanthropic donations and contributions from the private sector.
In addition to leading in prostate cancer research, B.C. is the only province with an organization that connects a province-wide network of support groups. Prostate Cancer Foundation B.C. supports approximately 25 prostate cancer patient groups throughout the province, providing funding and information, assistance on fundraising events, facilitating access to information and advocating on behalf of support groups and members on issues of common interest.
The life sciences sector also plays an important role in B.C.’s economy. According to a recent study commissioned by LifeSciences BC, life sciences organizations employed approximately 4,200 British Columbians with an annual payroll projected to have been $300 million in 2011. Total expenditures in 2011 by the sector were an estimated $570 million, 24 per cent higher than in 2010.
We are fortunate to live in a Province here in BC that certainly leads the way in treatment and research world wide.

am a firefighter and cancer survivor circumnavigating the globe by bicycle for breast, prostate, and lung cancer charity. I recently crossed the United States from Vancouver Canada down the Pacific Coast to San Diego and Mexico then across the continent to the Atlantic Ocean in Florida. That leg consisted of riding 100+ miles per day covering 5500 miles and 180,000 ft of elevation. Next on to Europe and China. The posted blogs are my personal opinion and thoughts.
